Umhlanga Ski Boat Club was founded in 1963 and has been a consistently competitive angling club over the years. Originally situated in the heart of Umhlanga Village, the club premises were relocated in 2017 due to the development of the surrounding areas and construction of the Radisson Hotel and Oceans Mall.
USBC forms part of the Umhlanga Country Club premises which also includes Umhlanga Bowling Club, Umhlanga Tennis Club and Padel Nation courts. There is a pool, braai areas, function areas, ample parking, designated wash bays for boats and a full-service restaurant and bar available.
USBC is home to the annual Umhlanga Fishing Festival which is held in the first quarter of the year and attracts over 200 anglers to compete for cash prizes to the value of R300 000 and other prizes to the value of R450 000.
In addition to this, we host corporate fishing days, Monthly Mug Members Competitions, Junior and Ladies Competitions and Provincial Tournaments on behalf of Natal Deep Sea Angling Association.
In 2024, we were a proud joint recipient of the NDSAA President’s Award with Shelly Beach Ski Boat Club for our positive contribution to the sport of angling in KZN.
Our launch site is Grannies Pool which is situated in front of the Pearls apartment buildings and the duty tower shares premises with the Rocks Lifesaving Club. The launch is categorised as a surf launch and can be tricky to newcomers. Our safety officer ensures that all visiting craft have the correct credentials and have done their ins and outs with him before going to sea.
We offer membership for Skippers, Ordinary (angling) Members and Social Members.
